Writers' Workshop

A four-day workshop to develop writing skills in young people ages 10-13 will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 25-28 by the Grosse Ile Alliance for the Arts at Centennial Farm.

Anyone in this age bracket from the Downriver area may enroll. The cost is $10.

Leading the workshop are two island residents, Mono D'Angelo and Pam Frucci.

D'Angelo is a published novelist and poet. He heads the Downriver Poets and Playwrights literary group and is former president of the Poetry Society of Michigan.

Frucci is a retired teacher of composition and was a co-founder of The Ile Camera at the age of 13.

The focus of the workshop is to build skills in writing paragraphs, letters, poetry and short stories. The best writing efforts of the participants will be published in a literary chapbook following the program.

Also included in the workshop are building vocabulary tools that help with the technique of writing, and information on publishing.

The workshop is designed to help raise Michigan Educational Assessment Program test scores.

For more information or to enroll in the workshop, contact Frucci at 1-734-671-0170 or by e-mail at jpfrucci@yahoo.com.

The first 20 to apply will be assured of a place in the class. The deadline is Aug. 18.
