July 14th Board of Trustees Meeting Highlights

At the Board of Trustees meeting, scheduled for Monday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. some of the issues that will be discussed include the following:

DTE Outage Presentation

With the many outages and brownouts recently experienced by residents at the north end of the Island and in response to this problem, the Township has requested a special studay session with DTE officials. DTE Officials will discuss the electrical situation occurring at the north end of the Island, the need to remove the many dead ash on the north end, on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The Township has been in contact with DTE over this ongoing situation and DTE has agreed to review the area to analyze where the problems lie.

 

2008 Downriver Senior Olympics

It is not too late to sign up for the annual Downriver Senior Olympics to be held this year in the City of Trenton. Deadline to sign up is this Friday, June 27 at the Recreation Department. The Olympics will begin on Monday, August 4 and run through Friday, August 8 that includes a closing banquet. Events to participate in range from cards, golf, bowling, horseshoes to bocce ball and swimming to name a few. What are you waiting for! Sign up today!

Discover Grosse Ile

The new and updated “Discover Grosse Ile” brochures are available at Township Hall. The brochure is an updated version of the original handout created in the early 1990’s by the Island Business Association. Updated information includes Macomb Street businesses, school numbers, Island history, statistics and great pictures of our wonderful Island. Please feel free to stop by and pick up a copy at the Administration Office at Township Hall.

Concerts on the Commons

The Grosse Ile Alliance for the Arts in cooperation with the Grosse Ile Recreation Department is sponsoring the “Concerts on the Commons” concert series. The series continues each Sunday, from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Macomb Commons. The featured entertainment this week is Random Access, a jazz quintet made up of players from the Grosse Ile Big Band. Stop by not only to listen to great music but to also take a look at the new park.. Review Irene Will’s recent letter to the editor – she does a perfect job of describing the recent concerts in the commons and success of the DDA Macomb Common area.

MDOT Announces Road Closure beginning July 14, 2008

MDOT announces 90-day closure of I-96 between Rosa Parks Boulevard and I-94 in southwest Detroit

BACKGROUND: MDOT will be closing the I-96 freeway between Rosa Parks Boulevard and I-94. The closure is expected to be in effect for 90 days, beginning Monday, July 14, and ending in mid-October. During this time, MDOT will reconstruct one mile of the I-96 freeway, along with new storm drains and freeway lighting. Access to Mexicantown, southwest and downtown Detroit, and the Ambassador Bridge will be maintained throughout construction. Detours will be posted and updated detour maps will be available to the public. This closure is part of MDOT's ongoing I-75 Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project. This major infrastructure reconstruction has been under way along the I-75/I-96 corridor between Rosa Parks Boulevard and Clark Street in southwest Detroit since early 2008. The Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project, which is now 40 percent complete, is bringing approximately $170 million in improvements to this economically vital area that includes southwest Detroit, Mexicantown, and the A
mbassador Bridge.
